The approach depends on the size and construction of the structure, its proximity to boundaries or neighbouring buildings, and access for machinery and trucks. Small outbuildings and larger house demolitions call for different methods, which we scope during the site visit.

Demolition is one of the noisier, more visible stages of a project, with machinery, breaking and truck movements over the course of the work. We plan around street access, neighbouring properties and any timing restrictions, and let you know what to expect before the day.

Demolition: decisions that matter
Where a structure's age or materials are unknown, there's a risk of asbestos or other hazardous material being present, and that needs to be assessed and managed by an appropriately qualified specialist before any disturbance — we don't carry out asbestos identification or removal ourselves and will pause work to arrange this if there's any doubt. Beyond that, bringing a structure down safely around services, boundaries and neighbouring buildings takes experience most property owners don't have reason to have built up.
Do you check for asbestos before demolishing an older building?
If a building's age or materials suggest asbestos could be present, we won't disturb it until an appropriately qualified person has assessed it. We're not an asbestos removal specialist, so that assessment and any removal work sits with the right qualified party, not us.
Do I need consent to demolish a structure?
Many demolitions require council notification or consent, and services need to be safely disconnected beforehand. We can flag what looks necessary, but confirming and arranging consents sits with you, your builder or your consultant.
What happens to the demolition debris?
Material is sorted where practical, with concrete and recyclable material separated from general waste, then carted to appropriate facilities. Exact handling depends on what the structure was built from.
Can you demolish just part of a building, like an old lean-to or garage?
Yes, partial demolition of a single structure or addition is common, and we scope it the same way as a full demolition, taking care around whatever is staying.
How long does demolition and clearance take?
It depends heavily on the size and construction of the structure and how much needs carting away. We'll give you a realistic timeframe once we've seen the site.
